Breathing
The flower is an element in our collective imaginary that we associate with the senses; That is why we are interested in the relationship between smell and the scent of a Dalia, a quality that is not only questioned through the common symptoms of the virus (Covid-19) such as the loss of smell but also refers us to the memory of those people we have lost because of the virus, however it is also a constant reminder that thanks to those who put their lives at risk we continue to breathe.
Due to its variety of species, its number of forms or different types of Dalia, this specimen in a single element (flower) represents all those who make up the first line of health workers against COVID-19 (Healthcare workers and support personnel in contact with the patient in person (Doctors, nurses, receptionists, dentists, and more), public health workers, social workers, caregivers of children or the elderly with special needs, mortuary service providers, amonq many more) because in addition to being considered one of the most popular ornamental flowers, for a long time it has been the object of study for its antecedents with traditional pre-Hispanic medicine and its healing properties.
Dalia.
"Atlcotlixochit" (Nahuatl), decreed as a symbol of National Floriculture in 1963 by the Mexican government, the Dahlia is considered a flower native to the temperate forests of the south and center of the country. The Mexican Indians, as skilled horticulturists obtaining numerous varieties; at present it is the one with the largest number of varieties among all plant species. It is also attributed healing properties; among its virtues is that of being expectorant, bactericidal and fungicidal, so it is part of some treatments for coughs and asthma.
*Of the 13 groups into which "Dahlias" are classified according to the morphology of their flowers, only some are suitable for attracting pollinating insects. These are groups that include Dahlia cultivars with open center flowers as they are the ones that allow easy access to these pollinators; Allowing life through the memorial is an opportunity to thank the effort made by the health workers to preserve our lives.
