*The National Pavilion United Arab Emirates at La Biennale di Venezia , led by co-curator Wael Al Awar in collaboration with the Curator’s Collective, launches an international open call for Design to propose a design for installation in Venice during the summer of 2021.
With the arrival of modernity the idea of progress was born, which in architecture was translated into the substitution of natural material, by those produced; today involved in the ravages of a pandemic detached from these apparently failed ideas, we se ourselves in the need to stop for a moment and explore the limits of the material or rather of the matter; this is how we understand that the only sure thing is change; just like us as a species our environment and our reality are constantly changing, this is why the proposal seeks to explore this premise; through a volume made up of milled partitions (1,500 crushed mould-made Clay Blocks), which become a place of rest, in which the user becomes a witness of the passage of time, observing the traces of those who occupied the place before; delegating to the user the care of the bench, for the future ocCupants of the same, reinforcing the idea that it is us and only us who can preserve or destroy our reality and our possible futures.
